Kandi Alexander is a dedicated volunteer advocate for Autism and Special Needs in her community. A proud mother of three. She has two amazing adult daughters, two beautiful granddaughters, and her incredible son. Her journey into advocacy began 19 years ago when her son opened the door to what would become her lifelong passion: supporting families living with Autism and Special Needs.
Sixteen years ago, Kandi created We Speak – Parent Group @ Lake County, an online volunteer support community that continues to grow daily with new families. Recognized as one of the most influential groups in the county, its integrity and transparency have led to collaborations with local businesses, law enforcement agencies, civic organizations, and nonprofits. Together, they’ve developed events and programs that promote inclusion and support for all.
Kandi currently serves as the Director of Nurturing Spirit Association, a nonprofit dedicated to serving adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities in Minneola, Florida. She is also a board member of the South Lake Junior Women’s Club and the Media Specialist for the GFWC Clermont Chapter.
Married for 36 years to her husband Terry, Kandi’s leadership and impact have been recognized widely. In 2019, she was honored as a Local Hero by Channel 13 Spectrum News for Making a Difference in the Community. She has also been featured in newspapers, television stories, podcasts, and radio programs.
Since 2015, Kandi has worked alongside nationally accredited organizations to provide Autism and Crisis Intervention Training for local and county police departments, fire departments, and medical personnel. Through her and her son’s social media platforms, she shares education, awareness, and empowerment, inspiring families across the community.
Her son has grown into an advocate himself, finding his own voice and paving the way for his peers with Kandi’s guidance and encouragement. Together, they demonstrate the power of inclusion, family, and advocacy in action.
